Voice acting swings the whole gamut from excellent to off-putting. Both are very small complaints and in no real way impacted my enjoyment of Victor Vran, though are worth noting. Similarly, when the screen becomes very busy with effects or enemy mobs I did experience minor slowdown. There is a noticeable graphical downstep when compared to the power console versions, especially in close-ups on character models and environmental elements. The move to Nintendo Switch does come with some trade-offs though. The amount of game you get in Overkill Edition is outstanding. If you feel like getting further into the main story, exploring a metal music themed world, or laying waste to evil hordes Victor Vran: Overkill Edition has you covered. This extra content is separate from the main campaign, but you do have the option to jump between them. Slaying skeletons with that epic metal blaring in the background is electrifyingly enjoyable. Putting the sheer fun of Victor Vran with the incredible soundtrack Motorhead offers just makes sense. Fractured Worlds expands on the lore and replayability of Victor Vran. The Motorhead content is a whole other campaign shaped around the music and aesthetic of Motorhead. The included DLC content, Fractured Worlds and the Motorhead campaign, make this an unbelievable package. With the portability of the Switch, if demon slaying gets lonely you can quickly add a friend to the mix. Local 2 player co-op and 4 player online co-op just adds even more potential to the title. The Nintendo Switch also works well with the multiplayer components of Victor Vran. Experimenting with what you find is a core component of Victor Vran. Being able to quickly switch between two weapons can lead to some fiendishly pleasing results, in a way which reminded me of the pleasure one can derive from the Devil May Cry series. Combine with the rapid loot cycle, and you can often find yourself reevaluating your tactics with every new discovery.įiguring out the most effective weapon sets is part of the fun too. Comboing your weapon abilities, passive perks, and sub-weapons can lead to drastically differing playstyles. While you may not be dealing with minute percentiles and statistics, there is real potential for those who wish to get elbows deep into the subsystems. This loot is also procedurally generated so that replaying the game or levels can result in vastly different rewards, causing you to reevaluate your playstyle on the fly.ĭon’t let this trick you into thinking that Victor Vran lacks depth however. Loot, like weaponry or new magical powers, is frequently rewarded or discovered throughout the world of Victor Vran: Overkill Edition. Being able to simply put the Nintendo Switch to sleep means you can just pause mid explore, but you can also just knock off a few smaller goals and build your character ready for a boss run.Īdd to this the way loot is provided and you have a wonderful recipe for fun gameplay. You don’t need to settle in for a huge dungeon trawl in order to progress. What this means is that Victor Vran: Overkill Edition rewards you for short and long play sessions. By completing these mini-quests you are granted experience, loot, or gold. These vary widely and may include aims like using a different weapon-type for so many kills, defeating enemies in a certain amount of time, or finding so many secret nooks or crannies. In each area or dungeon you explore, you are given a set of side-goals. The game is designed around constantly pushing you onwards and upwards, and trying to eliminate downtime or grinding. With just five minutes of playtime, you can make reasonable gains in experience points, levels, gold, exploration, or inventory. This persistent loop of combat-loot-improve is what makes Victor Vran feel more than at home on the Nintendo Switch. Instead, the differences between what you collect are more immediately tangible leading to a continuous satisfying improvement. You are still looting improved weaponry and resources as you go, but Victor Vran doesn’t force you to deal with. You explore a number of dungeons and areas working towards an end goal or boss. Victor Vran: Overkill Editionplays like a Diablo-lite.
